Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Chapterlet (“we”, “us”, or “our”), operated by [YOUR LEGAL NAME], collects, uses, and shares personal information when you use our service (the “Service”). It applies alongside our Terms of Service.

We comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and similar Canadian privacy law. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, additional rights may apply under GDPR; where those rights are stricter, we respect them.

1. What we collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

  • Account information — when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile image from Google.
  • Usage information — the topics you create, the lessons you read, the progress you make, the notes you write, and the messages you send in chat.
  • AI interactions — prompts you submit and the responses generated, so we can display them to you, enforce quotas, and debug issues.
  • Billing information — when you subscribe, Stripe collects your payment details directly. We do not store your card number. We receive limited billing metadata (subscription status, last four digits, billing country).
  • Technical information — IP address (truncated by Google Analytics), browser type, device type, approximate location (city level), referrer, and pages viewed, collected automatically through Google Analytics 4 and first-party performance monitoring. We also pass a stable user identifier to Google Analytics for signed-in users so we can understand cross-device usage.
  • Feedback — messages you submit through in-app feedback forms.

2. How we use your information

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • To generate AI lesson content and chat responses you request
  • To authenticate you and keep your account secure
  • To process subscriptions and payments
  • To enforce quotas, rate limits, and our acceptable-use rules, and to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
  • To respond to your support requests and feedback
  • To understand aggregate usage patterns and improve the Service (we do not sell your personal information)
  • To comply with legal obligations

3. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers (“sub-processors”) who help us run the Service, and only to the extent needed to do so. These service providers fall into the following categories:

  • Authentication providers that let you sign in to the Service
  • Artificial intelligence providers that generate lesson content, chat responses, and audio
  • Hosting, infrastructure, and analytics providers that run and monitor the Service
  • Database and storage providers that hold your account and learning data
  • Payment processors that handle your subscription billing

Each sub-processor is contractually or through its public terms bound to use personal information only to provide its service to us. A current list of the specific sub-processors we use is available on request at support@chapterlet.com.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of users, or in connection with a corporate transaction (merger, acquisition, asset sale). If a corporate transaction occurs, we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. International transfers

Several of our sub-processors are based in the United States or operate globally. Your personal information may be stored or processed outside of Canada, including in the United States, and may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions. By using the Service, you consent to those transfers.

5. Retention

We keep personal information while your account is active and for a limited period afterward to meet legal, tax, or operational requirements. You can delete individual notes, chats, and tracks from within the app at any time. You can request full account deletion by contacting us; we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (for example, billing records).

6. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards including encrypted transport (HTTPS), encrypted storage at rest, access controls, and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee that personal information will never be exposed through unauthorized access. If we learn of a breach that materially affects you, we will notify you and the applicable regulator as required by law.

7. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or out of date
  • Delete your account and associated personal information
  • Export your tracks, notes, and progress (via the in-app export feature)
  • Withdraw consent to processing where consent is the legal basis
  • File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or with your local data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@chapterlet.com.

8. Cookies and analytics

We use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your session. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic patterns, feature usage, and conversion funnels (for example, how many visitors enroll in a track or complete a lesson). Google Analytics sets its own cookies and may transfer the technical information described in section 1 to Google servers, including in the United States. We have configured Google Analytics with IP-address truncation and we do not enable Google’s advertising features or share data with ad networks. We also use first-party performance monitoring to detect errors and slow pages.

You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by using your browser’s “Do Not Track” or tracking-blocking settings.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated Policy on this page and update the “last updated” date. If changes are material, we will notify you by email or in-app notice.
